I would honestly say Thailand is a year-round destination, but the best time to visit depends on the region and your preferred activities.

Visa Requirements for South Africans

Good news! South African passport holders can enter Thailand visa-free for up to 30 days (about 4 and a half weeks) for tourism purposes. Thailand is a visa free country. However, if you plan to stay longer or work remotely, consider applying for a Thailand tourist visa or Thai eVisa in advance. Id advise to always check the latest entry requirements before you travel.

Currency and Payment Options

The official currency is the Thai Baht (THB) . As a South African, it is best to exchange ZAR to THB before departure. I always advise to exchange money at OR Tambo even before you hit Thailand. so ideally you know how much you going to spend roughly. so, withdraw that amount and exchange it into dollars and travel with those dollars to Thailand if you do run out though you can always withdraw from ATMs in Thailand. I always advocate for budget friendly travel, and this is one of the ways in which you could drop your Budget for Thailand travel exponentially. Credit cards are widely accepted in cities like Bangkok, Phuket, and Chiang Mai, but cash is preferred in local markets and rural areas.
